A memorable moment for me was standing up the night-shift residency I wished I'd had — and watching the first cohort become charge nurses.

I never had to leave to grow. Every couple of years there was a new chapter waiting, and a manager who actively wanted me to outgrow them.
Learned the floor and shadowed charge nurses on Med-Surg.
Joined the nurse residency and found her footing in acute care.
Ran the board on nights and mentored the new grads behind her.
Led a unit of 14 through a new-tower opening.
Now leads a team of 22 across Med-Surg and the ED.
